The National Day of Prayer is a long-standing part of America’s history. It was established in 1755 to help the Continental Congress request religious help from the 13 colonies to pray for strength and guidance during America’s founding. Ever since that date, the call to prayer has occurred every single year through America’s history transcending President Lincoln’s presidency in 1863 and beyond. President Truman, in 1952, in conjunction with Congress, codified the National Day or Prayer.

The Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo has crossed the border with former Mexican nationals and has become a popular holiday in the United States. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in a variety of ways, but it typically involves food, parades or activities with a Mexican flavor.
